Back with a colourful bang to kick off the second half of 2024, Qbanaa’s first release of the year arrives with the announcement of her new Elisa EP, due in the autumn. While previous releases have drawn on soul, drum n bass and electronic influences, this project is firmly rooted in her Cuban roots and shaped by her recent return to the country after a seven year absence. Lead single ‘Best Time’ sets up the record perfectly, a hook laden alt pop track that – like the artist herself – embraces cultures, soundscapes and inspirations from a versatile spectrum of places. Initially recorded in several locations across the island with producer Rafino Murphy (aka Uly), the song was finished on their return to their Dublin studio. From pop, R&B and soul to jazz and Latin  it’s almost impossible to place Qbanaa in a box, and that’s exactly how she likes it –  lyrical vulnerability paired with effervescent soul sounds. Elisa will draw inspiration from real life experiences with ex partners as well as her relationship with her mother, grandfather and herself– with the visuals interpreting late 60’s/70’s art pop and surrealism. ‘Best Time’ will be released following a European support tour with Canadian Alt Indie artist Ruby Waters and her position as one of RTE 2FM’s Rising Artists for 2024.
